PreScan - Faster Checkout: Usage

Achieve these goals

Speed up checkout lanes

By scanning the ‘next in line’ customer’s items before he reaches the cashier, the cashier spends less time scanning. The cashier processes each customer more quickly, so the line speeds up.

Get more POS stations, but more cheaply and using less floor space

With PreScan, you can process 2 customers together, effectively giving you an extra POS station. As the cashier handles one customer, another employee scans and bags the items for the next customer. When the first customer is done, the cashier just presses a button to get the next customer’s total and collects money. Then it’s time to process the next 2 customers!

Get more employees to help with checkout

Previously only POS trained employees could process customers. Now all employees can help because they only have to use a simple barcode scanner.

Reduce RSI (repetitive stress injury) for cashiers

If customers scan items, the cashier performs fewer RSI causing motions. Your cashiers last longer and there are fewer injury claims.

Decrease customer dissatisfaction with the store

When customers feel trapped in lines and unable to do anything, it’s easy to become dissatisfied with the store. PreScan lets the customer feel they control how fast they checkout. There is less tendency to blame the store when the solution to your problem is in your hands.

Who does the scanning?

Use an employee for complete control of checkout

There are two easy methods. First, assign an employee to help a particular checkout lane. Two customers can be checked out at the same time, thereby doubling the throughput of that lane.

Second, an employee goes from lane to lane. By pre-scanning items, he makes transactions on each lane go faster. This method uses few employees.

Use the customer for free extra manpower

Customers can operate a barcode scanner. They’ll want to scan items since they know that will get them through the line faster. The store receives free customer labor and makes customers happier at the same time. If correct scanning is a concern, click here.
